Sites of Potential Interest to Wood Turners
...and woodworkers in general

The small print: I warrant nothing whatsoever about the quality of any site listed or its owner, not counting my own, of course. I check link validity now and then, but there's no guarantee they still exist or, for that matter, ever did. Sites containing Java errors, un-turnoff-able music, canned ads, blinking text, construction signs, and other annoyances have been omitted. I scorn but tolerate the occasional animated GIF.

Turnings (my personal favorites first, then alphabetically)

• Gordon Dunphey -- the dean of Atlantic Canada woodturners. About four years ago, a devotee scanned in and published many photos of Gordon Dunphey's wonderful turnings. He noted at the top, "Not quite finished, but enjoy and come back in about a week for more." It has been a very long week. But the nearly many photos he did make available are well worth a visit. Observe and drool, fellow turners.
• Maurice Gamblin, Turner of Wood -- The very best so far as I'm concerned. But I'm prejudiced. Maurice was (and is) my teacher and he and his family are close friends. Visit his site then visit his shop. Just drive to the northern end of Interstate 95 and turn left.
• Andrew Noyes calls himself The Woodturner on the Web. Despite this, his site is well worth a visit and his turnings are excellent. He even marks sold items.
• Aspen Grove -- Interesting colored turnings from aspen trees infused with dye while still standing.
• Don Stinson -- a talented Canadian turner.
• Kevin's Woodturnings -- a good site with useful information and great turnings. But I wish he hadn't discovered animated GIFs. He mentions a rather nifty piece of software to help laminators calculate cutting angles... and even offers free consulting on its use.
• Tiger Lily Workshop -- Of course we're here too... just in case someone copies the whole list to post elsewhere. Wouldn't want anyone to miss another of the very best, eh? ;-)
• Treasures From Trees -- Woodturnings by Richard L. (Dick) Gerard. Interesting site, but the garish background detracts from the impact of the turnings. This guy has also discovered the animated GIF. GIF me a break.
• Woodworking on the Web -- This U.K. Site has a rather elegant turnings gallery of rather elegant turnings.
• Woodturner-Gallery -- Here's a nice addition to the list. (Hmm. I need to find out how he does his photos.)

Tools and Supplies-- Canada & U.S. (See below for wood)

• The Conover, A Unique American Made Woodturning Lathe -- Their slogan says it all.
• Craft Supplies USA, the Woodturner's Catalog -- They understand and respect hobbyists and professionals alike. That's my feeling on the matter.
• Hartville Tool Company -- You can order their catalog but they don't have it online. But they also offer free buy-sell want ads for woodworkers.
• Lee Valley Tools -- Judging by comments now and then on the net, service quality from Lee Valley can vary. For myself, I've only ordered from them a few times, but I found service and product quality excellent.
• Sepp Leaf Products is the U.S. supplier of Liberon coloring and finishing products. They don't seem to have a site, but clicking on the name will get you a mailto link. They're efficient and polite, but watch out: your order will get you on the (postal) mailing list for a bunch of architectural restoration products catalogs.
• Union Hill Antique Tool Co. -- I've not used their tools, but their site is interesting and they have a good ornamental turning section.

Tools and Supplies -- Europe

• Elektra Bekum, a German machine tool maker.

• California Walnut Designs -- I don't know how good their stuff is, but based on the spectacular pictures on the site...
• Central Valley Wood Products -- Bowl and pen blanks.
• Woodtrix Mall -- Bowl blanks.

• American Association of Woodturners -- Seattle Chapter
• Triangle Woodturners of North Carolina -- A Chapter of the AAW. Their gallery pages often have quite spectacular turnings.

• Collins Woodworking Directory -- an excellent "Generic" woodworking site! (Interesting. At the top it's "Woodworking Directory" whereas at the bottom of the page it's "Woodworkers Directory". Both apply.)

• More Woodturning -- people seem either to love this pub or hate it.
• Shopnotes sometimes has articles of interest to turners.
